Walking Tours
There are a number of marked trails in the hills surrounding the city that are ideal for strolling or jogging. The promenade along the lakeside is popular with locals and tourists alike. Zurich Tourism (tel: (01) 215 4000; website: www.zurichtourism.ch) organises tailored group tours as well as standard two-hour tours of the Old Town. Tours cost SFr20 (concessions are available usually departing from in front of the Tourist Information Office, Bahnhofbrücke 1.
Bus Tours
The Zurich Tourism (tel: (01) 215 4000; website: www.zurichtourism.ch) is the best source for a variety of bus tours of the city, lasting two to two and a half hours and costing SFr29-45. Most involve a detour into the countryside. Some also include a cable car or boat trip. Bus tours depart either from in front of the Tourist Information Office or from Zurich-Sihlquai station. Two-hour Classic Trolley tours in old decorated vehicles are also available from April to October, with refreshments provided. The cost of this tour, which includes headphone commentary in seven languages, is SFr32 (concessions are available). The tour departs from Zurich-Sihlquai station at 1200 and 1400 from November to March and also 0945 from April to October.
Boat Tours
Cruises are offered on Lake Zurich by Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft, Mythenquai 333 (tel: (01) 487 1333; fax: (01) 487 1320; e-mail: ahoi@zsg.ch; website: www.zsg.ch), departing from Bürkliplatz from April to October. Costs vary from SFr5.40 to SFr36 (depending on the length of the cruise) and the cost for cruises with drinks and/or food can climb to SFr59. Reservations are only necessary for those planning to dine onboard – the lunchtime cruise is only SFr8 (tel: (01) 482 6830 for reservations). A one-hour river cruise is available for SFr3.60.
